What we need

Symbotic is currently seeking a principal robotics engineer to join our Mobile Robotics Software team. We are looking for a creative and collaborative person who thrives in an agile development environment.  This role contributes to a talented team of roboticists working on the heart of Symbotic’s mobile robot platforms.

What we do

The team is responsible for delivering solutions for the storage and retrieval use cases performed in a fully autonomous warehouse operating 100s of mobile robots at customer sites. The role requires excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate in a highly cross-functional environments along with strong technical problem-solving skills and passion to tackle real world challenges in robotics.

What you'll do

  • Contribute to the design, development, and testing of control algorithms for mobile robot case handling tasks, including navigation and manipulation.

  • Work as part of a collaborative team of roboticists and software engineers to build and improve robotic control software.

  • Support the development of sensor fusion and control algorithms for autonomous navigation and manipulation systems.

  • Partner with cross-functional engineering and product teams to help design and implement new features.

  • Assist in ensuring software quality, reliability, and performance through testing and code reviews.

  • Help troubleshoot system issues by investigating performance or production challenges and proposing solutions.

  • Participate in identifying risks and contribute to solutions that improve system performance and customer outcomes.

  • Travel up to 10% as needed.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Aerospace, or a related field (completed or expected soon).

  • Academic or internship experience with robotics, control systems, or mobile robot applications (e.g., localization, navigation, manipulation).

  • Familiarity with programming in C++ and foundational software development practices.

  • Basic understanding of real-time or embedded systems concepts (e.g., threading, communication, or operating systems).

  • Exposure to sensor fusion, estimation techniques, or control theory

  • Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git)

  • Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

  • Effective communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts and learn from others.

Our environment

  • Up to 10% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.

  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.

The base range for this position in the posted location is $96,000.00 - $132,000.00 however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO and/or other benefits.
