What we need  

We are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Fabrication & Build Technician to join our Fixtures & Prototypes team within the System Test organization.  In this position, you will have a key role in bringing prototypes, machines, tools, and fixtures from concept to completion. You will collaborate with engineers to influence and optimize designs, fabricate parts and components in our machine shop, and build fixtures. You’ll take ownership of maintaining shop equipment and machine schedules. This is a dynamic position that blends creativity, design, and problem-solving with hands-on machining, assembly, and maintenance. 

What you’ll do  

  • Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines to develop prototypes, machines, tools, and fixtures to meet Engineering project deliverables.  

  • Lead machine shop projects from concept through completion, including fabrication, assembly, wiring, and implementation. 

  • Apply knowledge and expertise in best practices of machining and fabrication to guide Engineers’ part designs for speed and efficiency. 

  • Develop novel concepts for fixtures, jigs and tools to solve unique, complex problems for engineering, manufacturing and customer site teams. 

  • Machine parts from design drawings, CAD models, sketches, and oral instructions.  

  • Design or modify CAD files to support machining / fabrication requirements. 

  • Contribute to development and implementation of machine ship processes and safety. Train and guide engineers to perform minor machining operations. 

  • Maintain the machine shop and perform scheduled machine maintenance. 

What you’ll need  

  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a Technician or Machinist working in an R&D or engineering development environment.  

  • High school or vocational technical school diploma required. Associate’s or BS in technical discipline preferred.  

  • Experience in the use and optimization of mills and lathes required. Familiarity with Prototrack software/machines a plus. Welding experience a plus.  

  • Skilled in mechanical assembly, wiring, soldering, and instrumentation.  

  • Experience with CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) required.  

  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings.  

  • Expertise in electromechanical products, robotics, or automation is desired.  

  • Familiar with computer MS; Word, Excel, and Power Point.  

  • Demonstrated self-starter. This is a “roll-up-your-sleeves” position.  

  • Great communication skills required to work with a dynamic customer base. 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.  

Our environment   

  • Up to 10% travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.   

  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.   

  • There may be times where you will need to stair climb into the structure. You may be required to routinely walk up and down stairs to navigate the automation structure.    

  • Subject to environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions but not necessarily temperature changes. Must be capable of working in temperatures ranging from 55° to 100° Fahrenheit.     

  • At times you may be at a construction site with PPE required (hard hat, safety vest, steel toes, eyeglasses, ear protection, fall protection (e.g., safety harness).    

  • Frequent ability to safely and efficiently lift items weighing up to 50lbs and move items weighing up to 80lbs.    

  • Stand/walk for up to 8-10 hours and is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms.     

  • This job may require working at heights of up to 45 feet and within restrictive areas of 24 inches. Where you may need to be able to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.    

  • Must be capable of occasional and/or continuous feeling, seeing, hearing, bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, balancing, gripping, climbing, crawling, sitting, handling objects, and repetitive movement using both hands and feet. Must comply with all safety requirements and protocols, including without limitation Lock out tag out safety protocols and fall protection safety protocols.

The base range for this position in the posted location is $82,000.00 - $113,300.00 however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO and/or other benefits.
